Coupled With Color

Originally intended as a chic bachelorette pad for a high-powered woman in the California tech industry, this Marin residence evolved into a new family home when the homeowner met her future husband during the design process. Designer Annie Lowengart married the couple’s individual styles to create a fresh, youthful residence enlivened by bold color.

Multipurpose Space

The layout of the living room accommodates different activities, creating a true multipurpose space. The primary seating area includes an intimate arrangement of the sofa and two armchairs for gatherings of family or friends. The sofa has a comfortable view of the television, which is mounted above the fireplace, for nights when the homeowners choose to stay in and watch a movie. A bistro-sized table and chairs near the window offer a space to have a drink, play cards or even work on a laptop with a view of the TV.

Squeeze of Lime

Lime green curtains trimmed with patterned fabric are layered over a Roman shade create a well-tailored look and focal point frame for the living room window.

Coordinating Color Palette

The secondary palette of lime green and azure blue are carried from the living room into the home office, where the palette becomes more dominant through its use in the wall covering.

Adding Fun to the Workday

Katie Ridder's "Leaf" wallpaper in green adds a "squeeze of lime" to make work less of a chore in this home office. The stylish desktops are mechanized to transform from a sitting desk to a standing desk to suit the homeowner's preference for the day.

Color Balance

Lowengart balances the use of bold color in this home office by painting the back walls of the cabinetry lime green while keeping the doors, shelving and trim a crisp white, mimicking the balance of color in the wallpaper. A playful pink sconce adds a touch of feminine to the space designed to be shared by the couple, who both work in the tech industry.

Color Punch

With a crisp white kitchen serving as a backdrop, this dining room punches with color thanks end chairs upholstered in Schumacher's Chiang Mai Dragon fabric and lime green panels and side chairs covered in blue leather. The green in the end chairs is echoed in the drawers of the chest, which serves as a sideboard.

Classic With a Twist

Bright green drawers give an unexpected contemporary twist to a more traditional chest of drawers used as a sideboard and bar in this colorful California dining room. The space draws its accent color palette from the Chiang Mai Dragon fabric by Schumacher adorning the end dining chair.

Blending Styles

Benjamin Anderson's "Stingray" painting of a floating bicycle nods to the homeowners' love of cycling and sets the palette for their refreshing media room. His taste is reflected in the flamestitch rug, geometric print wallpaper and contemporary ottoman, while her taste is represented in the bright colors.

Making it Pop

The interior of the custom media cabinetry pops with bright orange paint and accent lighting.

Elevating Design in Unexpected Places

This laundry room proves you can have a little fun in a typically utilitarian space. Galbraith & Paul's "Lotus" wallpaper adds a fun design touch to the space, and two wine refrigerators offer easy beverage access to the adjacent media room.

Making More Room

Lowengart reconfigured this laundry room to create storage for laundry and cleaning supplies.

Getting Bolder

The colorful palette is carried into the guest room in a big way. The fabric prints offer similar, complementary scale, and the cool blue tones offer a calming contrast to the energetic lime-colored walls.
