Classic Yet Cozy Kitchen

Designer Barbara Gilbert uses traditional cabinetry and granite countertops to create a timeless, family-friendly kitchen.

Before: Outdated Kitchen

The homeowner wanted to open up the kitchen to the family room. In addition, the kitchen needed an overall update of cabinetry, appliances and finishes.

After: Family-Friendly Kitchen

After removing walls to incorporate the surrounding rooms, the kitchen is now an open, welcoming heart of the home. To set the island apart from the traditional white cabinets, designer Barbara Gilbert paints the island with an antique finish using black under a brilliant red.

Perfect Contrast

Deep granite countertops and dark hardwood floors are combined with classic white cabinetry for a beautiful contrast. The range hood is covered with cabinet panels so that it disappears into the traditional design.

Breakfast Station

The same cabinetry and countertops from the kitchen are used in the butler's pantry, which is turned into a coffee station. Glass upper cabinets provide storage for all the homeowner's coffee essentials.
