Bright Beginnings

To coordinate with the classy dining space adjacent to the sun room, designer Deborah Bettcher got rid of this sun room's out-of-date wicker furnishings and kicked up the style by adding bright colors, fun patterns, comfy furnishings and a style that reflects the home's beautiful interior. The club chairs, which feature a unique open pattern, were selected since they offer extra seating with minimal obstruction of the view.

Silver Lining

“Since the homeowner is a talented artist and potter, I desperately wanted to find a dramatic sculpture to accent the corner,” says Deborah. “Finally, I found this life-sized antique Italian terracotta lady. While carrying her in, however, we dropped her, and she broke into seven ugly pieces on the driveway. I was devastated. I repaired her and applied a veil of wash to soften the flaws. It turned out that her imperfections made her even more charming!”

Outdoor Details

Oftentimes, outdoor rooms are a great place to experiment with color and fun accessories. Colorful statues and adorable sculptures look right at home in this bright, eclectic sun room. The drapery tie backs, which are made of strips of birch bark, are a lovely way to bring nature into the space.

Light in Day or Night

Though warm sunshine is the most abundant source of light in this fabulous outdoor space, stylish ambient and task lighting are also utilized, making the room enjoyable any time of day or night.
