Mix and Match

Designer Jil Sonia McDonald paired understated grays with vibrant patterns to create a dining room that is not only eclectic but inviting.

Mixing Old With New

As per her client's request, McDonald incorporated the client’s own Scandinavian dining table into the design. The end result is a perfectly inviting dining area with natural light shining from the large window that sits at the center of the room.

Floral Appeal

A side table gets a boost of decor from a floral arrangement and contemporary lamp.

Lighting Choices

A simple pendant light hangs over the dining table, giving it a simple, modern look.

Decorative Pillows

The white bench seat was covered in a vibrant orange fabric and decorated with pillows in multiple patterns, including tropical and solid green. A funky zigzag throw adds a finishing touch.

Toned-Down Curtains

The room's gray-and-white curtains keep the overall eclectic look of the room while also taking the color palette down a notch, providing a nice balance to the space.

Have a Seat

Clean and modern white chairs are perfect for the round table setting and overall look of the room.

Wall Lighting

McDonald used restored fixtures, like these sconces, to add a bit of an Arts and Crafts appeal to the space.

Room-to-Room Appeal

McDonald carried the eclectic vibe of the dining room into its next-door neighbor's room: the living room. The curtains are the same pattern that is used in the dining room, while the understated armchair earns a pop of the orange color that was used in the dining room's bench seat.
