By widening the arches that separate the home's spaces, designers were able to create a more open concept home design that would give the homeowners a more functional kitchen without sacrificing their stylish space.
The homeowners wanted an open plan kitchen with plenty of storage and functionality, so designers created sightlines from the kitchen into the stairwell and one of the home's living spaces, creating an easier flow between the home's spaces.
Designers brought the beachy feel to the exterior of the home by re-stuccoing the exterior and painting it a natural brown and bringing in a natural element of stone to the space. Then, they added pops of color with a gray-blue front door and gray blue shutters, then they added coral pillows to brighten the design.
The homeowners love to entertain, so designers wanted to create a space that was functional for them. To do this, they made sure to keep the space feeling light and open by raising the arched doorway that separates the kitchen and living room space and removing the door that previously connected the rooms, creating a clear line of from the kitchen into the living room. They added a peninsula that provides seating, keeping the space functional, but they also included a small area to the left of the breakfast bar that acts as a sort of pass through, making food service between the rooms easy.
Situated in the center of the living room, designers used natural stone and sea shells to create a focal point in the space and bring the nautical theme into the living room.
The homeowners wanted a unique dining room space that would comfortably seat ten, so designers used natural light and materials that would help make the area feel both stylish and open. Natural light flows into the space from the sliding glass doors and reflects off the white walls, while the glass top table helps the light to permeate the space rather than blocking it. Around the large glass top table, ten contemporary chairs clad in copper colored leather provide seating for the guests, while brightly colored art adds color to the space and an interesting light fixture ties the room together.
In the home's living room, designers mixed a textured stone fireplace surround with bold, jewel toned furniture to create a comfortable, interesting space.
