Previously, the eat-in portion of this kitchen contained and old, outdated breakfast nook with banquettes. The homeowners loved this unique addition to their space, but it was in desperate need of updating, so designers scaled back the walls to create a larger space for the nook, then they modernized it with a bright wall color, silver leather covering on the banquettes, a modern table and a red, modern chandelier to match the walls. To help light the space, designers added double hung windows to let in plenty of natural light, making the space, bright, warm and inviting.
In this corner of the kitchen space, designers have added a prep area to solve the homeowners' countertop woes. When considering a renovation, the homeowners had several items on their wish list. The back stairs needed to be restored; the eat-in area needed to be updated, and the homeowners wanted the individual spaces in their home to be defined, so designers made these dreams a reality. The eat-in area has been modernized by pushing the walls back to create more space and by adding a red accent wall and modern furnishings. To create the delineation homeowners wanted between spaces, designers dropped the ceiling to create a clear pathway from the front of the house to the back, giving each space its own separate area while still keeping the home connected.
To create a functional cabinet out of those difficult corner cabinets, designers added two custom, pull out shelves. Not only does this double the usable space in the cabinet, it puts all of the homeowners gadgets within reach, creating a storage solution that truly makes life easier.
