After passing through the courtyard doors, you are welcomed by dual fountain features that frame the walkway and provide a tranquil feeling upon entry into this private space. Finding the right glass waterline tile for fountain and spa was difficult since we wanted it to be complementary to the antique brick and terra cotta paving colors, but the Bamboo Blend (Weave Series from Walker Zanger) provide the right balance of color, while also providing enough of a highlight.
One of the major design components of this outdoor design is the grand and majestic cabana that encompasses multiple functions and areas of luxury retreat. Included under the roof of the cabana is a large dining room, an opulent cook center and a quaint fireplace room with optimum views of the ocean and coastline.
Exquisite landscaping really complements the design of this backyard, with luxury and elegance in mind. Fountains and manicured hedges line the walkway by the pool, and a covered area for entertaining rests in the background, complete with a bar, grill, outdoor fireplace and plenty of space to sit.
Although the Pacific Ocean was just beyond this backyard and offered an unparalleled view, the space needed a highlight feature that could be seen from inside. The spa can easily been seen from the front door, throughout the great room and other rooms in the house. Its central location, clean infinity edge and alignment with the ocean beyond allow for it to be a major highlight to the backyard, while also blending well with the surrounding materials. From this view, the spa looks quite high, but it is accessed by a 12" raised patio. By raising the patio and subsequently the spa by twelve (12"), it allowed enough height for the spa water to blend perfectly with the ocean beyond.
